I have two bushy short plants I think are female I can almost bet money on it. So there's my mother plants for the next generation. One plant is doing fine but the other one seems to be budding even though the lights are on 18 hrs. a day. The buds look kind of funny too they are long with no leaves but lots of bud pods and a yellow resin that powders off if you move the branches is that normal?

Sound more like you have a male plant there. They form bud like looking things with no leaves and the yellow resin sounds more like pollen. Look to see if any of the pollen sacks have opened and an open pollen sack looks like a miniature flower with lot of yellow dust on it. I would remove that plant from where the other one is unless you want to seed your other plant.

Are male plants good for anything besides breeding female plants?

Male plants are good for making blonde hash and for making some good oil or if you like to smoke leaf once in a while.

What's the biggest plant you have ever seen and what strain was it?

The biggest as in tallest plant I have ever seen was about 18 feet high. It was just an ordinary sativa plant that was tacked up on the side of a house like a vine. It ended up producing 5 lbs. of dry mid to low grade bud. The biggest healthiest plant not counting the size would have been an 8 foot tall Texada Time Warp.
